Preparing for the “Web of Things”

Amity ACM Student Chapter of Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Amity School of Engineering & Technology organized a Guest Lecture by Prof. Bebo White on 16th March 2015.

Prof. Bebo White is a Departmental Associate (Emeritus) at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Accelerator Center, the high-energy physics and basic energy science laboratory operated by Stanford University. Prior to his retirement, he was permanent faculty at SLAC from 1981 to 2005. In recent years, Bebo’s work has been dominated by his involvement with World Wide Web technology. He first became involved with WWW development while on sabbatical at CERN (Switzerland) in 1989 and was instrumental in establishing the first non-European Web site at SLAC in 1991.

The event started with an extremely motivational speech by Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor AUUP and she also spoke about the importance of Technology. The dais was also graced by the presence of Dr. W Selvamurthy and Prof. (Dr.) Gurinder Singh.

Prof. Bebo White then continued with his lecture on “Preparing for the web of Things”. He started by questioning the audience as to what the terms “web” and “things” refer to in his topic. This gathered a lot of attention. He went on with the statistics of the number of people connected to the internet today and how it has evolved into what it is today. Eventually he spoke about the challenges for the web of things and what does a person on the web mean. The session was followed by an ice breaking session.

Under the blessings of Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, the session was highly interactive and informative that eventually concluded by conferring Honorary Professorship to Prof. Bebo White, Stanford University, USA.
